2023年6月14日 · A colleague on one of my Discords pointed me towards the Hexroll random hex-map generator this evening. It generates a VAST amount of information besides a nice little hexmap - including dungeon plans - along with contents, settlements, factions, nations, etc.

What's the best software for mapmaking? [closed]
For building up the map geometry and helping generate the world, I've had good success with Wilbur. It's a side project from one of the developers of Fractal Terrain, from the same company that makes Campaign Cartographer. It focuses largely on the height map representation of the world, but produces a pretty decent world map if you play with it.
Making fantasy city [non-tactical] maps with GIMP
For a less street-dense map, working on improving your map-centric image manipulation skills has more payoff for the time invested than experimenting with plugins to do the job. This tutorial on creating fantasy city maps at the Cartographers' Guild is an excellent place to start even if it is written with Photoshop in mind.
