2024年3月11日 · A lot of it was great for making Furniture but was way too heavy for making Guitars. I found a warehouse full of this stuff some years back (~ 2010 or so) but it was HEAVY & a Luthier I know in Canada warned me about the weight of some of these old stashes of Belize / Honduran Mahogany.
Is this an old Gibson model? Any idea what I'm looking at?

Only got 21 frets, and they're spaced awfully far apart at the neck joint, no inlays. Very peculiar. 2024年3月11日 · In 2006-2007 Gibson used genuine Honduras mahogany from Honduras on their Historic line, they stated this on their site from early '07 until late '07 or early '08 (I'm sure some folks have the screen caps saved). If you search back on google you will find articles about Gibson cutting a deal with the Honduran authorities in 2006.

2024年4月14日 · A lot of what you're calling "ageing" is simply rough treatment. Exposed to a lot of light, it will fade. Temperature fluctuations will encourage finish checking. Old guitars exist without much of this damage - at least the ones that have been cared for. I have fifteen year old Gibsons that still look almost new.

2019年7月19日 · A Gibson USA 50s IMO is a little bit thicker than a "regular" R0 (there were three different R0's, a R9 size, a regular R0, and a thinner R0). A Gibson USA 60s is a thinner shredder like neck (old Gibson Classics, 2002 - 2007 60s necked LP Standards).
