Dry cut-off blade to replace abrasive wheel
The metal-cutting blades run at a much lower rpm (like 1200-1500), and will overheat and lose their edge in a matter of a few cuts. I tried using a speed adjuster to bring the RPMs down, but that reduced the torque of the saw and the blade kept stopping.

2015年5月31日 · Have also used Dewalt, Milwaukee, Craftsman, and a couple of no-names I picked up somewhere--I keep going back to Lenox. Their bi-metal, at 14 TPI for your 1/4" stock would be my choice. You want about 3 teeth in the material. Don't run the saw too fast, and adding some cutting oil helps--but use an OA torch to burn the oil off before welding.

2007年12月26日 · 10" Table saw for metal. I cut metal all of the time on my 10" Delta Contractor's Table saw. I use blades from my 14" chopsaw that have worn doiwn to about ten". I use some of mine and also a supply that I get from a friend who has a machine shop. My table saw has a 1 hp Dayton motor with a belt drive at 3,450 rpm.
Need a speed control to reduce my chopsaw speed.
2008年3月9日 · With my Porter Cable 1410, the instruction manual (yea, I do read those things) says specifically, NOT to cut rebar. That's why I kept my DeWalt chop saw (for mystery metal). You may want to check out FleaBay for spare blades. If you do a search for Freud Saw Blades, you'll find the Freud Diablo 14" Metal Cutting Blades. I've picked up 4 spares.

2008年1月29日 · I have the same problem as KBar, if i want to take a little off it makes for a tough cut because of the blade flex. as for cut angles i use my speed square for 45.s and 90.s. i made several wood templates for other angles on my wood chop saw,in a pinch before i got my metal chop-saw i put a blade on my makita. one cut said i was sorry never again.

Often when cutting off larger thicker steel with an abrasive (made for steel) 14" cut off the sparks and cutting stop and the steel gets hot. I can detect the the "blade" is hot but only for a very short time. Even after the blade and steel cool several min. it will not cut unless I wait for a long period of time, about an hour it will cut again.

I can cut shims from pipe with the 14" saw a 1/16" thick and they are dead on thickness wise. You wont do that with a band saw. Only down side is the blades are expensive. Long as you don't knock any teeth off them they last awhile though. I still use the big band saw for certain cuts or large material but really try to use the dry saws when I can.

It also provides a FAST, near spark-free, clean, smooth cut. There does appear to be a piece of metal left hanging on the cut-off piece, but I think that is really me pushing to fast. It does not have the heat build up of friction wheel cutting. It cuts using twin carbide-tipped-opposite rotating blades at 7800 rpm (no-load) speed.
