May 15, 2017 · I think this movie could have been done much better (it would work really well as a series due to the book's length and the way that the different characters' stories intersect). That being said, I think due to that it was hard to adapt in the first place and the director/screenwriter did an excellent job in capturing the themes of the book.

Oct 31, 2012 · Battle Royale is just another reminder that the best true horror movies are made overseas. Descent, most Guillermo del Toro, 28 Days Later, Let the Right One In, Martyrs, Inside, The Loved Ones... to name a few are all great but it disappoints me that America, with the biggest movie industry, has let an entire genre's art form slip away.

Mar 12, 2014 · Maybe the first draft of the Battle Royale film was really faithful to the original story. There could be a million reasons why they changed it. Maybe the film benefitted in many other aspects other than the story in doing so. The film still looks/sounds/feels great. So, "Why is Battle Royale such a highly regarded film?"

Each scene, every action scene, every death scene, every friendship scene, is shot, written, and acted with perfect sincerity. A good movie transcends its irregularities and plot holes, and an elevated B-movie (as you put it, which I like) is self-aware of it's absurdity and plot holes, and it pushes forward with gleeful sincerity anyways.
