Mr. Moore and Dave Prater stormed the R&B and pop charts with indelible hits like “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Comin’.”

Sam Moore, who made up R&B group Sam & Dave alongside Dave Prater, died Jan. 10, his wife and manager Joyce Moore confirmed. He was 89.
