Government and private groups are funding an over $100,000 reward for information about the death of a Mexican gray wolf in Arizona.

Killing a Mexican wolf is illegal under Arizona state law and protections under the Federal Endangered Species Act and can result in up to $50,000 in criminal penalty fines, a year in jail and a civil penalty up to $25,000, officials said.

Various rewards are being offered for any information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for the death of the Mexican wolf, with up to $103,500 going to the person who solves the mystery.
