Arrested in Romania and returned to France on Tuesday evening, drug trafficker and fugitive Mohamed Amra has been indicted for 'murder, attempted murder, escape, theft and concealment of theft,' as well as for 'criminal conspiracy.

An official in Romania says that the notorious French fugitive who staged a deadly escape that killed two guards last year is being extradited to France from Romania.

Two guards were killed when armed assailants helped Mohamed Amra escape from a prison convoy last May, prompting a high-profile search.

A suspected gangland killer described as France's "public enemy number one" was formally indicted on a slew of organised crime charges including murder before an investigating magistrate in Paris after his extradition from Romania.
