The Taliban has confirmed the arrest of two British nationals in their 70s in Afghanistan. It follows an appeal by the children of Peter and Barbie Reynolds for their release.

A British couple in their 70s who run education programs in Afghanistan have lost contact with their family after being detained by the Taliban early this month, their children say.

The Taliban has told the BBC it will "endeavour" to release two British nationals who have been arrested and held in Afghanistan "as soon as possible". Peter Reynolds, 79, and his wife Barbie, 75, were arrested on 1 February while returning to their home in the country's Bamiyan province.
