Stephen Colbert was in the middle of taping his Wednesday night episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when he learned the news that pal Jimmy Kimmel’s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was suspended.

Speaking Thursday at Axios' Media Trends Live event, the former Paramount Global chair said that shows like CBS' "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" were "financially not viable" and "it had been that way for a long time.
