With fans and his fellow competitors looking on, Duplantis once again proved he has no equal — past or present — on Monday at Tokyo's National Stadium.
Pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall has won Australia's first medal of the Tokyo world championships and Mondo Duplantis has broken his own world record in the event.
At stake in Tokyo is not just a medal but also his bid to reach the soar above six metres, a feat comparable to a sprinter breaking 10 seconds and one his coach Paul Burgess and boyhood inspiration Steve Hooker have managed.
