Early voting began on Monday ahead of the Nov. 7 Texas General Election. There are 68 polling locations open across Harris County.

The bill’s sponsor says greater oversight is needed for Texas’ largest county as county officials have vowed to fight the legislation in court.

The Texas Supreme Court ruled that Harris County voters can continue using drive-thru locations, rejecting a Republican-led request to throw out early balloting from the sites.

After several Harris County polling places opened late, a state district judge ordered voting locations there to stay open until 8 p.m. But the state’s highest civil court blocked that ruling.

Harris County in Texas is home to Houston, and has tended to vote blue in the last decade. Republican state lawmakers recently passed bills that target how elections are run there.
