All in-person services at the DMV are by appointment only and now, you must request that appointment over the phone. For some, the process has been daunting, waiting on hold for more than an hour.

Prior to the start of the new service in September, customers would have had to make an appointment to visit DMV in person to renew their credentials.

The DMV will resume its in-person driving tests Friday for those with pre-existing appointments. NBC 7’s Nicole Gomez reports.

DMV said on Thursday, more than 100,000 customers have taken advantage of their two-year renewal option for driver’s licenses and ID cards.

DMV Commissioner Everett Frazier said appointments will begin May 26 for in-person services such as getting an original identification card.
