By bringing Michelle Obama’s project into its big tent, the Common Application will gain new expertise in helping low-income and first-generation students get to college.

The Common App is expanding its direct admissions program for the 2024–2025 application season to 116 member colleges and universities in 34 states.

If requested, the Common App will conceal basic information on race and ethnicity — a move that could help schools if the Supreme Court ends affirmative action.

Colleges will soon have the option to hide students’ race and ethnicity information on applications submitted through Common App, according to the organization.
