The camshaft position sensor gathers information about the vehicle's camshaft speed and sends it to the vehicle's engine control module (ECM).

The CMP sensor signal is the result of a magnetic pickup mounted on the engine block. The sensor reacts to a trigger placed on the camshaft.

MSD’s 6LS series boxes, however, can handle LS-style 24x or 58x systems that also incorporate a camshaft sensor.
