The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE) has confirmed the first positive human case of West Nile virus. West Nile virus develops in the human body 2 to 14 days after a bite from an infected mosquito.

In late June, the Will County Health Department announced that a batch of mosquitoes in the city of Joliet, which is around 40 miles southwest of Chicago, tested positive for West Nile virus.
