President Donald Trump and the Wall Street Journal’s opinion section are fighting over tariff policy – again. Trump railed against a Wednesday editorial in the Journal that said, with some evidence, that auto-heavy Michigan would be hurt by tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico that Trump is once again threatening to impose.

The U.S. stock market has been generally struggling since the middle of last week after several weaker-than-expected reports on the economy thudded onto Wall Street. On Tuesday, the latest said confidence among U.S. consumers is falling more than economists expected.

U.S. indexes bucked steady global equity markets overnight and Treasury yields fell to 2-1/2 month lows, trading off signs of softening U.S. growth and uncertainty over Trump administration policies while Germany's election result was buoying the euro.
