GM has clarified why 2019-through-2020 model year trucks and SUVs aren't included in the automaker's most recent 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine safety recall.

General Motors has announced a safety recall on full-size SUVs and pickups equipped with the automaker’s 6.2-litre V8. This follows a series of complaints, engine replacements, class actions and investigations.

The recall, issued over a problem with the 6.2L V8 gas engine, impacts 597,630 total vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall notice. GM found that the connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine parts have “manufacturing defects” that could lead to engine damage or failure.
