Smithfield Packing Co, behind the world's largest pork and hog producer, recalled certain containers of a product called 'Gwaltney mild pork sausage roll' on Thursday after consumer complaints.

These sausages had a coarser grind—what our team expects from an Italian sausage link—and plenty of seasoning. These links were a bit saltier with plenty of fennel flavor to compliment the pork.

Mix sausage, nuts, breadcrumbs, chives, parsley, sage, 1 tablespoon of the spice blend and 1 teaspoon salt in a small bowl. Season with plenty of black pepper. Heat oven to 325 degrees.

The sausages were sold in 11 states and the District of Columbia. The recalled products are 1-pound packages of Gwaltney mild pork sausage roll with a use-by date of March 12, 2013.
