The slips are then removed and allowed to grow roots of their own. You can buy sweet potato slips at some area nurseries already rooted and ready to plant. Or you can start your own.

When your sweet potato slips are ready, plant one slip per 10-gallon container (you can fit more in larger containers). The soil should be rich, loose, and well-watered afterward.
