Machine guns drowned out the Big Moo. Seven Chicago gangsters were gunned down Feb. 14, 1929, the day Foremost Dairies was born. The Chicago carnage was forever known as the Valentine's Day massacre.

The company was based in Allentown, Pa., formed by smaller dairies in 1915. Foremost Dairies, Inc., founded in 1931 by J.C. Penny, purchased it in 1957. Foremost later merged with Beatrice Dairies.

Crews were demolishing the old Foremost building in Kalihi. The job is nearly complete. This officially marks the end of Foremost Dairies, which officially shut its doors back in 2004.

Foremost Dairies Hawaii shut down its processing plant at the site more than a decade ago after it was unwilling to renovate the facility because it would have been too costly.
