I am planning on getting an AD11 mobo with a 1GHz Tbird but there are two versions, slot A and socket A. Whats the difference between a slot and a socket and wich is better?

On a basic level, 6-point sockets and 12-point sockets have a pretty straightforward difference, but does more points mean one is better than the other?
