SQL Server Canonical and Microsoft have teamed up to support Ubuntu with Microsoft SQL Server both for on-premises systems and images available through the Azure Marketplace.

“Native Active Directory integration and certified Microsoft SQL Server on Ubuntu are top priorities for our enterprise customers.” said Canonical Chief Executive Mark Shuttleworth.

If you have Windows logins, the login SID in SQL Server will match the SID from Active Directory. So all you need to do is create the same login on both your primary and secondary server.

From there, you can configure Active Directory domain controllers with the PDC emulator role in a domain to use this list of servers explicitly for their time.

Active Directory, another prominent Microsoft product used by a lot of companies running their own servers, will also now be available from Google as a managed service.
