The latest is the WRX S210 STI Complete Car prototype, which Subaru unveiled over the weekend at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon. It previews a new model set to go on sale next spring with a limited production run of 500 units, likely all earmarked for Japan.

It’s still a prototype for now, but we know it’s based on the Japan-only WRX S4 ‘STI Sport R EX’. The more aggressive frock is inspired directly by Subaru’s current N24 racer, and includes a more serious carbon rear wing, sleeker aero kit and beefier arches. Mandatory installs for any hot Scooby.

The WRX STI S210 offers a glimpse of what Subaru can achieve when reviving its performance-oriented lineup. However, its limited run, Japan-exclusive availability, and the divisive CVT-only transmission make it a bittersweet release.

Subaru will release a next-gen version of the WRX STI. Too bad the car's specs will leave enthusiasts underwhelmed.

The door to a new Subaru WRX STI has officially cracked open, as Subaru has revealed a Japan-only WRX STI S210 Prototype at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Subaru ’s not bringing back the WRX STI, but it’s definitely having fun with the regular WRX . We’ve shown you the 670-horsepower race car conversion a.k.a. Project Midnight , as well as the highly futuristic Sport Mobility design study that hinted at Subaru sports cars in the next decade.
