A Utah Valley University student claims he called the FBI after spotting a man on the Losee Center roof twice before Charlie Kirk was shot.

Charlie Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback” tour. A sniper on the roof of Utah Valley University’s Losee Center was spotted moments after Charlie Kirk was shot during a Turning Point USA event.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday during a question-and-answer session on campus.

University officials say the shot that killed Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University came from the Losee Center roughly 200 yards from his event. Kirk was hit about 20 minutes after he began speaking.

Kirk was a driving force behind the modern conservative movement on college campuses. Utah’s governor called his death “a political assassination.”

An at-large suspect dressed in all-black tactical gear fired a single shot at Utah Valley University, and Charlie Kirk later died of his injuries, officials said. Dispatch audio reviewed by PEOPLE included the suspect’s description.

The student said he was not sure whether the man was the same as the person seen in the visuals released by the FBI, adding that he “looked familiar”.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the assailant was finally in custody after being on the loose for hours, with conflicting reports that an arrest was made after video started circulating on
