Gabrielle, the seventh named storm of 2025 in the Atlantic, had 50 mph winds on Thursday, according to the hurricane center. The storm is not expected to strengthen until possibly later this weekend, and the hurricane center’s forecast suggests it could become a hurricane on Monday.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed in the Atlantic on Sept. 17 and is expected to become the season's second hurricane over the weekend.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle is a tilted storm. It continues to operate under strong, dry upper winds, which are pushing the thunderstorms off to the east side and not allowing it to strengthen. But the hostile conditions are forecast to let up.
