Facebook owner Meta said on Friday it was releasing a batch of new AI models from its research division, including a "Self-Taught Evaluator" that may offer a path toward less human involvement in the AI development process.

In addition to the Self-Taught Evaluator, Meta released updates to other AI tools, including improvements to its image-identification model and new datasets to assist in discovering inorganic materials. Meta is releasing these models to the public, encouraging further exploration of AI self-evaluation methods, says the company.

Meta Platforms on Friday released an array of new AI products including a “Self-Taught Evaluator” that is able to check the accuracy of other AI models. The model is therefore reportedly able to offer less human involvement in the development process of the AI models.

Meta employees in Los Angeles were reportedly fired for using lunch vouchers improperly, including having food delivered to their home.

Some Meta employees on Blind were sympathetic. Others suggested the policy violators chose their own fate by misusing the Grubhub meal credits.

Meta’s head of global safety said “sextortion” has become more common across social media platforms, including Instagram.

Meta said Thursday Instagram is launching a new campaign to help teens and their parents avoid sextortion and fight the financially-driven scammers who prey on teens and children.

Meta is continuing its flurry of teen safety features for Instagram as the company faces mounting questions about its handling of younger users’ privacy and safety in its apps. The latest batch of updates are meant to tighten its protections against sextortion.

The Verge report did not specify the exact number of job cuts but mentioned that they were small. Meta also did not comment on the numbers.

Meta says it has laid off some employees, including staff at WhatsApp And Instagram, to realign its resources with its “strategic goals.”

Meta laid off workers at Instagram, WhatsApp, Reality Labs and in other parts of the company Wednesday in a restructuring of specific groups of workers. The move is not a company-wide downsizing, according to Meta.
