Officials in Texas are set to vote this week on a controversial new public school curriculum that incorporates Christian lessons from the Bible as early as kindergarten while putting less focus on other faiths.

Texas' education board on Tuesday advanced a new Bible-infused curriculum that would be optional for schools to incorporate in kindergarten through fifth grades, one of the latest Republican-led efforts in the U.

At a meeting of the Texas State Board of Education on Monday, educators, parents, and religious advocates offered testimony for and against the proposal, which would allow Bible teachings—such as the Golden Rule and lessons from books like Genesis—to be included in classrooms.
